WEDDINGS, FUNERALS & CHRISTENINGS

At St Peter's Mevagissey, we offer a variety of ministries that aim to serve and connect our community.

Our ministries are guided by our values of hospitality, love and compassion. We believe in providing a space where people can come together, deepen their faith and encounter God.

Baptisms / Christenings

At St Peter’s we welcome everyone who is considering the possibility of Baptism for their children or for themselves.  Baptisms are also called Christenings.  During a christening, your child will be baptised with water.

Baptism is the start of an exciting journey with God.  In the baptism service, parents and Godparents give thanks for the child’s life and make promises on behalf of the child, making a commitment to start their child on a journey of faith.  At St Peter’s, we are here to support you in helping your child grow in the Christian faith.  Therefore, in the service we welcome your child on behalf of the whole worldwide church and we promise to pray for him/her and your family.  Children can make the promises made by their godparents for themselves at a Confirmation service when they are older.

For an adult who hasn’t been Baptised/Christened as a child, baptism is seen as a key moment when a person makes a decision to follow Jesus and to receive God’s Holy Spirit to help them live out that decision.

Baptisms ideally take place within a Church service, but are available at other times to suit individual family's needs.

Funerals

Losing a loved one is often a very difficult, confusing and stressful time. We would be privileged to assist you through the legalities and details of arranging a funeral, either in church or at the Crematorium.

As Christians, we believe in the promises of Christ of a place better than the present. A place where there will be no more pain and suffering. It is for this reason that at funerals we give thanks for the life of a loved one and we commit them into God’s care. Members of our team are available to lead a funeral service for anyone who lives in the parish. It doesn’t matter if your loved one did not go to church. We believe in a loving God and our church extends that love to all. Please talk to us about what is possible.

In the first instance, contact the Churchwarden. You could choose whether the service takes place in the church (followed, or preceded, by burial or cremation) or at a crematorium.

More information is available on the Church of England Website.

Weddings

Congratulations!  We’d love to help you plan your very special wedding.  Marrying in church can be a personal, meaningful, spiritual and beautiful event.  You have a legal right to be married at St Peter’s if you live in the parish.  If you live outside the parish, recent new laws, initiated by the Church of England and approved by Parliament, add to this right of residency.  This makes it easier for couples to marry in a church where they have a family or other special connection, even if they don’t live in the parish.  Please contact us if you would like to find out how to proceed with arranging your wedding at St Peter’s.
